Melissa Gray Named to NEWBA Weekly Honor Roll

WESTFIELD, Mass.  – Westfield State sophomore forward Melissa Gray (Peabody, Mass.) was named to the New England Women's Basketball Association's weekly honor roll for her performance last week.

Gray, who was previously selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference player of the week, averaged 20.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and two steals while shooting 51.9 percent (14-27) from the field and 53.8 percent (7-13) from the three point line in a 1-1 week for the Owls.

She scored a career-high 24 points in 16 minutes of action, with five rebounds and two steals in the Owls' 103-84 win over Regis College. Gray also tallied 17 points, four rebounds and two steals in 17 minutes of play in the 79-74 setback to NYU on Saturday.

For the season, Gray is leading the Owls in scoring at 19.6 points per game and is shooting better than 51 percent from three point range.

Gray and Westfield State will be back in action on Thursday, December 6 host Albertus Magnus, tip off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.. The game will be Westfield's home opener, as the Owls (3-2) have played all five of their contests to open the season on the road.
