Sapouckey, Gray Sweep MASCAC Weekly Awards

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State University senior center Rebecca Sapouckey (Chicopee, Mass., Granby High School) earned the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball player of the week while freshman forward Melissa Gray (Peabody, Mass) secured rookie of the week for the Owls.

Sapouckey led the way for the Owls as they went 2-0 for the week. She averaged 16 .5 points, nine rebounds, two steals and 1.5 assists while shooting 58.3% (14-24) from the field. Sapouckey posted a double-double in a 93-80 win over Framingham State as she scored a career high 18 points to go along with 10 rebounds. She added 15 points, eight rebounds, four steals, and two assists in only 17 minutes as the Owls beat Salem State 100-74.

Gray averaged 16 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.5 steals for the Owls throughout the week. She scored 18 points (4-6 from three-point range) and tallied seven rebounds with three steals in the Owls win over Framingham State. In the win over Salem State, Gray put up 14 points, four rebounds, and two steals.

Sapouckey is averaging 8.1 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game to go along with 29 blocks and 43 steals on the season.

Gray is averaging 10 points a game and has 34 steals and 38 three pointers made on the season.

Westfield State improved to 15-7 on the season and 9-1 in the MASCAC.

The Owls host Fitchburg State University on Wednesday, Feb. 14th in a conference game at 5:30 p.m.
