WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Westfield State University freshman forward Melissa Gray (Peabody, Mass.) has earned New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Rookie of the Week honors Monday.

Gray netted a career-best 22 points and shot 57.1 percent from both the field (8-of-14) and beyond the arc (4-of-7) while making both of her free throw attempts and adding two steals and two rebounds in Owls' first MASCAC loss of the season to Bridgewater State Saturday.

Westfield is 13-7 overall and 7-1 in the MASCAC this season. Gray averages 9.4 points per game, 2.7 rebounds per game, and 1.5 steals per game for the Owls. While averaging 16 minutes per game. She ranks second on the team with 32 made three pointers, which ranks seventh in the MASCAC.

Gray has stepped up her play against conference foes, where she is averaging 12 points per game.

Westfield will have a key game on Wednesday night, traveling to play Framingham State at 5:30 p.m. The Owls lead the league with a 7-1 record, Framingham is 7-2. The two teams were the co-favorites to win the conference title this year.
