Women's Basketball Gets National Statistical Champion Awards

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State women's basketball added more hardware to their collection this week as the Owls received commemorative plaques from the NCAA as the national statistical champion in three recognized categories.

The Owls received granite plaques as the 2017-18 NCAA Division III leaders in points per game, steals per game and turnover margin.

Led by 13th year head coach Andrea Bertini, the Owls finished the season with a 19-8 overall record and an 11-1 mark in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Owls won the league's regular-season and tournament championships, and made their third straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Bertini is putting the finishing touches on the Owls 2018-19 schedule, which will include a trip to the D3Hoops.com Classic Tournament in fabulous Las Vegas.

The Owls return a strong nucleus to their "System" style of play, which includes senior all-conference players Lucy Barrett and Kierra McCarthy, junior point guard Chelsea Moussette and senior guard Allison Hester.
