Wodecki, Alfonso Each Homer Twice as Owls Sweep Gordon

WESTFIELD, Mass.  –   Westfield State sophomore 3B Hannah Wodecki (Southampton, Mass./Hampshire Reg.) drove in nine runs in the doubleheader, as the Owls pounded out 29 hits across two games in sweeping a doubleheader from Gordon College, 13-4 in the opener, and 12-6 in the nightcap.

Wodecki finished 2-5 with two runs scored and three rbi, all coming on a second-inning three-run homer to centerfield that staked the Owls to a 5-0 lead in the opener.  

Designated player Mia Alfonso (Dalton, Mass./Pittsfield) added a three-run homer in the sixth inning for added insurance for the owls.

She finished 2-2 with five runs batted in.

Reigning MASCAC Pitcher of the week Gianna Conte (Greenfield, Mass.) picked up the win for the Owls to improve her record to 4-1 on the season.

In the nightcap  Westfield exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning to take command of the game.   Wodecki added a three-run blast for her second homer of the day, and Alfonso made it back-to-back jacks with a solo shot.

Sarah Hough (Southwick, Mass.) added her first home run of the season an inning later.  Hough finished with four hits in five trips to the plate, and Abby Clark (Uxbridge, Mass./Blackstone) delivered a 4-5 day with three runs scored and three RBI from the leadoff spot.

Stephanie Scoville (W, 3-2) (Northfield, Mass./Pioneer Valley) started and went the distance for Westfield after coming on in relief in game 1.

Westfield improves to 8-4 with the two wins, while Gordon is now 4-12.
