WESTFIELD, Mass.  – Jordyn Lummus' (Pittsfield, Mass.) RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Westfield State a 3-2 win over Penn State-Altoona as the Owls split a pair of games at Gene Cusic Classic in Naples, Fla. on Monday.

Lummus finished 4-4 in the game with a pair of RBI.   Westfield took a 2-0 lead through five innings on the strength of RBI singles from Megan Metzger (Uxbridge, Mass./Blackstone) in the second inning, and Lummus in the fifth.

The Lions struck for a pair of runs in the sixth inning as Altoona strung together three singles and a sac fly to tie the game at 2-2.

Stephanie Scoville (Northfield, Mass./Pioneer Valley)  (W, 2-0) earned the pitching win in relief of Katherine Canty (Natick, Mass.).   Scoville worked four innings, allowing four hits and two runs, while walking four and striking out one.   Canty tossed three scoreless innings.   Christina Ciampa (Rockville, Conn./Vernon-Rockville) added a pair of hits and a run.

Westfield fell to Pitt-Bradford, 3-2 in the second game of the day.

In the nightcap, Pitt-Bradford got all the offense they would need in the first inning, jumping out to a 3-0 lead.

Westfield got one back in the fourth on Mia Alfonso's (Dalton, Mass./Pittsfield) RBI double, and another in the sixth on a bases-loaded walk to Alyssa Clark (Uxbridge, Mass./Blackstone), but Pitt-Bradford starter Krislyn Clement (W, 2-1) limited the damage there.

Starter Gianna Conte (Greenfield, Mass.) (L,0-1) worked four innings and took the pitching loss for the Owls.  Hannah Wodecki (Southampton, Mass./Hampshire) finished 3-4 with two runs scored for Westfield.

Westfield State is now 3-1 on the season.  The Owls have tomorrow off before returning to action in Naples on Wednesday with games against Emerson College and University of St. Joseph (Conn.).
