WESTFIELD, Mass.  – Westfield State softball broke out the bats for the home opener, blasting their way past Bay Path University, 11-1 and 19-1 in a non-conference double header at the Alumni Field Complex.

The Owls are now 3-9 after the doubleheader sweep, while Bay Path is 0-4 this season.

In game 1, Westfield State's Stephanie Scoville tossed three perfect innings, and the Owls used six extra base hits to power past the Wildcats, 11-1.

Westfield piled up seven runs in the second inning, aided by three Bay Path errors.  Jess Chenard delivered the first run with an RBI single, Alex Czarkosky ripped an RBI double to left field, and Colleen Hughes tripled home two runs.

Megan Metzger added a two run home run to left field in the third inning, and Lindsay Cordopatri tripled home Christina Ciampa later in the inning.

Czarkosky and Chenard each finished with a pair of hits for Westfield.  Scoville (1-3) picked up her first win of the season, striking out six while not allowing a baserunner in three innings.  Gabby Giannantoni tossed the final two for Westfield.

Daisy Guzman (L, 0-2) started and tossed a complete game for Bay Path, and drove in Taylor Suffoletto with the lone run for the Wildcats.

In game 2, Westfield swung the bats early and often, putting up crooked numbers in each of the first four innings.   The Owls scored five in the first, getting a 2-run bomb from first-year Sarah Bingham that rocketed over the left center field fence, then got a 2-run double from starting pitcher Brenna Welch later in the inning.

The Owls added five more runs in the second, with an RBI double from Skylar Dutra, and a 2-run double from Lexus Mastromatteo.

Westfield got three runs in the third, the big blow a 2-run homer to left field from Annelyse Rivera.  Rivera added an RBI double in the fourth inning as the Owls scored four more runs.

Emma Scheeren (0-2) took the pitching loss for the Wildcats, who pushed their run across in the fourth inning as Madisyn Vera singled, and eventually scored from second on a throwing error.  Vera finished with a pair of hits for Bay Path.

Rivera finished 3-3 with four runs scored and three batted in, while Bingham delivered a 3-4 day with three runs scored and three RBI.

Mastromatteo, Welch and Alexis Pratt each had two hits for the Owls.

Welch picked up the pitching win to improve to 2-3 on the season, allowing just one run in three innings.

Westfield State will be home again on Thursday to host Keene State in a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
