Nichols College swept a non-conference softball doubleheader from Westfield State University by scores of 9-1 and 6-3 in Dudley, Mass. on Wednesday afternoon.

Westfield grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning in game 1, as Karly Mastello singled home Bri Tortora with the first run of the game.

The Bison took command from that point, erupting for five runs in the bottom of the second inning to put the game out of reach.

In game two, Westfield spotted the Bison an early 3-0 lead before rallying. The Owls scored one run in the fifth with Colleen Hughes' base it plating Kaitlynn Prophet with the Owls' first run of the game.  Trailing 6-1 in the seventh, Hughes tripled home one run, and sister Caitlin Hughes' base hit scored Colleen from third before the rally came up short in a 6-3 decision.

Mastello, Prophet, and both Hughes' sisters each had a pair of hits for Westfield State in game 2.

Westfield State will be back in action on Friday, hosting Keene State in a pair of non-conference games.
