Owls Swept By Smith

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State University dropped a softball doubleheader to Smith College by a scores of 7-1 and 11-7 in Northampton on Tuesday afternoon.

In the night cap, the Owls jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on RBI singles from Karly Mastello and Colleen Hughes.

The Pioneers tallied four runs in their half of the first inning, but the Owls regained the lead in the top of the second on Sarah Meunier's three run homerun.

Smith however, scored five runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a commanding 9-5 lead and held on for the win. 

Brenna Welch took the pitching loss for the Owls.  Bri Tortora had two hits and scored two runs, while Muenier finished 1-2 with 2 runs scored, and three rbi.

In the opener, Tortora drove in the Owls' lone run with an RBI single in the third inning.   Emily Arredondo started and worked five innings in the loss.
