KISSIMMEE, Fla. –  Westfield State got a shutdown pitching performance from Emily Woodworth to lead the Owls to a 2-1 win over Gordon College in the second game of a doubleheader between the two schools at the Osceola County Softball Complex on Thursday morning.

Woodworth allowed just five hits and one earned run in the complete game performance.

The Owls got all the offense they would need in the top of the first inning as Lindsay Cordopatri walked, then stole second and third base. Bri Tortota's fielder's choice ground ball drove in Cordopatri, and two hitters later Karly Mastello tripled to left center to drive in Tortora.

The Scots netted their only run of the contest in the fourth, on an RBI single from Kaelie Mercado.

Mastello had a pair of hits for the Owls.   Jasmine Mullally took the tough-luck loss for Gordon, allowing just five hits and striking out eight in a complete game.

In the opener, the Owls fell by a 9-1 score in six innings.

Gordon struck for three runs in the top of the first inning as four of the first five hitters reached via base hit, including three doubles.

Westfield got its lone run of the game in the bottom of the first inning, as Tortora singled and Caitlin Hughes doubled to drive her in.

Freshman starter Brenna Welch took the pitching loss for the Owls.  Jordyn Carpenter had three hits while Hughes added a pair.

Caitlin Catalanatto scattered eight hits in the complete game win for the Scots.

Westfield State is 3-5 on the season heading into the final day of their Florida trip.  The Owls will face Arcadia (PA) University and Mount St. Vincent (NY) tomorrow.
