FRAMINGHAM, Mass. - The Framingham State University softball team splits a pair of Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) games this afternoon with Westfield State at Maple Street Field. The Owls came from behind to take the opener 6-4, before the Rams blanked the Owls 2-0 in the night cap.

With the split, the Rams are now 9-11 on the year and 3-1 in the MASCAC, while the Owls move to 5-11 overall and 2-2 in the league.

Marchant went two-for-three in the game with a run scored and an RBI.

Sophomore Emily Woodworth (Marlborough, Mass.) took the loss for the Owls going six innings and allowing two earned runs on five hits with a strikeout.

In the opener, the Rams took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Marchant doubled and scored when Downing reached on a fielding error.

The Owls came back and tied the game in the top of the third. Freshman Lindsay Cordopatri (Walpole, Mass.) walked and scored on a double by senior Maddy Atkocaitis (Westfield, Mass.).

The Rams reclaimed the lead with two in the bottom of the inning. Downing singled home a run and junior Kayla Finacchiaro (Natick, Mass.) plated another on a fielder's choice.

The Owls tied the game in the top of the fifth with a pair of runs. Junior Caitlin Hughes (Hanson, Mass.) walked with the bases loaded and junior Bri Tortora (Worcester, Mass.) scored from third on a bases loaded pass ball.

The Rams retook the lead once again in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI single by Marchant, but the Owls scored three times in the top of the seventh to secure the victory.

Freshman Emily Arredondo (Woburn, Mass.) earned the win going seven innings and allowing four earned runs on eight hits. Junior Kelsi Gunarathne (Providence, RI) took the loss going seven innings and allowing six earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts.
