Owls Drop Two In Fla.

CLERMONT, Fla. - Westfield State softball dropped a pair of games on Tuesday, as the Owls fell to Ripon (Wisc.) 11-3, and Lakeland (Wisc.) University 4-1 in a pair of games at Hancock Park.

In the opener, Maddy Atkocaitis scored a pair of runs for the Owls and Maddie Keigwin doubled, but the Red Hawks unleashed a 16-hit barraged to power their way past the Owls. Emily Woodworth (1-2) took the pitching loss for Westfield.

Ripon pitcher Lexi Reetz allowed just one earned run and four hits while striking out eight, while Tene Robinson rapped out four hits in four at bats.

In the Owls second game of the day, Lakeland's Taylor Bush stopped the Owls on just three hits.

Atkocaitis delivered two of Westfield's three hits, including an RBI single in the third inning which scored Bri Tortora.

Westfield State starter Emily Arredondo scattered seven hits and allowed just three runs.

The Owls fall to 1-5 on their southern trip. Westfield will have tomorrow off before returning to the field on Thursday to face FDU-Florham and the University of New England at Legends Way in Clermont, Fla.
