WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State University freshman pitcher Emily Arredondo (Woburn, Mass.) was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference's softball rookie of the week.

Last week won both of her starts, pitching a complete-game shutout in a 12-0, 5-inning win over Elms College on Wednesday. Arredondo allowed just two hits and struck out three in a game shortened by the 8-run mercy rule to pick up her first collegiate win.

Arredondo was the winning pitcher on Friday as the Owls won their conference opener by a 6-4 score over Worcester State. Arredondo allowed just one earned run and scattered nine hits and struck out four on the afternoon.

For the season, she has a record of 2-5 and a 3.47 earned run average. The Owls are 4-10 overall and 1-1 in the MASCAC. The Owls are slated to host Smith College on Tuesday.
