Four Owls Selected to Softball All-Conference Teams

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State University's softball team had four players chosen to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) all-conference teams on Thursday.

Senior third-baseman Maddy Atkocaitis (Westfield, Mass.) and junior catcher Caitlin Hughes (Hanson, Mass. / Whitman Hanson) were named to first team while sophomore second-baseman Kaitlynn Prophet (Bellingham, Mass.) and freshman pitcher Emily Arredondo (Woburn, Mass.) were selected to the second team.

Starting in all 37 games this season, Atkocaitis finished the season with a .364 batting average overall and a .404 batting average in the league with nine doubles, six triples and two homeruns. The Westfield native totaled 29 runs with 25 RBI.

Kaitlynn Prophet

Starting in 36 of 37 games, Hughes finished the season with a .318 batting average in the MASCAC with seven doubles, 26 runs, and 24 RBI overall.

Prophet hit a .361 in conference this season and totaled six runs, a double and eight RBI.

Arredondo takes a regular turn in the Owls pitching rotation and posted a 2.48 earned run average with five wins and only two losses. Arredondo had 20 strikeouts in 48 innings pitched.

Westfield State earned the third seed in the MASCAC tournament and lost to second-seeded Framingham State, 1-0, in the championship game to conclude their season.
