Recent Highlights:

2021 Season: Devine guided the Owls to a MASCAC Championship for the 15th time since 2004. Senior Amy O'Sullivan earned the MASCAC Runner of the Year honors after winning the individual title at the MASCAC Championship. O'Sullivan would go on to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships, where she ran a personal best time and finished 66th out of the 293-player field. 

2019 Season: Coached Jack Merck to the MASCAC Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Year award. The Owl men took second place at the conference championship meet, and senior Zac Bentley joined Merck in earning All-Conference honors. Devine also helped freshman Grace Phair to the MASCAC Women's Cross Country Runner and Rookie of the Year honors. Sophomore Amy O'Sullivan and senior Andrea Noland joined Phair on the All-Conference team after the women won the 2019 MASCAC title. O'Sulivan also added an All-New England finish, placing 24th in the regional championship meet. O'Sullivan and Phair also added U.S Track and Field and Cross Country Association All-Academic honors to the stockpile of awards in 2019.

2018 Season: Devine coached Amy O’Sullivan to the MASCAC Women’s Cross Country Rookie of the year. O’Sullivan helped the Owls to a second place team finish at the MASCAC conference championship meet where she placed fifth individually. Devine guided Tim Forrest to second place individually at the MASCAC men’s cross country championship race which, helped Westfield as a team place third in a tightly contested race.

 2017 Season: Devine Coached Jessie Cardin who earned All-America Honors and was named for the MASCAC NCAA Woman of the year. Cardin a 4 time MASCAC champion, finished 36^th in the country at the NCAA Cross Country Championship. Devine led the men’s cross country team to third place at the MASCAC Championships. Tim Forrest and Patrick Brett earned all-conference honors had top ten finishes at the MASCAC championships. Forrest placed seventh and Brett placed ninth.

 Career Highlights:  He guided the Westfield women to 9 straight conference championships (2007-2016) while the men have won 5 conference crowns during his tenure. Mike Skelly captured the 2016 MASCAC title under Devine's guidance. In 2015, Devine coached Westfield's Jessie Cardin to a 20th place finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships and All-America honors. Earlier in his tenure at Westfield, Devine coached Kerry Arouca to multiple appearances in the NCAA Championship meet with a peak finish of 19th in the nation.

  About Coach Devine: Devine graduated from Westfield High School in 1965, and participated in football, basketball and track and field. He received the William Crane Trophy for excellence in scholarship and athletics and the Rod Tyler Award for excellence in track. Devine majored in art at Westfield State and received a master's degree in art from Assumption College in 1981.

 Devine was a valuable member of the Westfield State track and field team during its formative years in the early 1970s. The Westfield native was a team captain whose work ethic was an inspiration to his teammates. He earned all-conference honors in the 200 meter dash and as a member of the 4 x 100 and 4 x 100 relay teams. The Owls 4 x 400 relay squad finished seventh in his senior year (1974) at the NCAA Division III national championships with a time of 3:19.6.

 Coach Devine was inducted into the Westfield State Hall of Fame in 2005.

 Before Westfield: Prior to attending Westfield State, Devine served a tour of duty with the Marines in Vietnam.

 Devine was a highly respected and successful coach at Monson High School for more than 30 years. Devine, who retired as a high school art teacher in 2007, served as both the varsity cross country and boys' basketball head coach at Monson High School since 1976. In cross country, his teams compiled a 310-126 record with six league titles ('76, '95, '02, and ‘03, '04, and ‘05) and Western Mass. runners-up finishes in 2002, 2005, and 2007.

 After a three-year stint (1993-95) as the track and field head coach at Palmer High School, Devine instituted the Monson High School track and field program in 1996. He received Monson High School's Distinguished Service Award in 1995.

   In 2007, the Monson track and field facility was renamed the William T. Devine Track and Field Complex.
