WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State first-year runner Nathan Sylven (Wrentham, Mass.) swept the men's cross country conference honors this past week, securing the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Runner and Rookie of the Week for his performance at the James Earley Invitational on Saturday.

At the 27th James Earley Invitational hosted by Westfield State, Sylven paced the Owls by finishing 16th overall out of a total of 202 athletes. He ran the 8,000-meter course in Stanley Park at a time of 26:13, battling humid and rainy weather conditions throughout the race.

Sylven has been no stranger to the weekly honors list as he has been named as the conference's Rookie of the Week in all four weeks that the league released conference recognition. For the second time this fall season, Sylven has claimed both Runner and Rookie honors in the same week. His last sweep of the week was at the first Keene State Invitational meet where he was the individual champion of the race.

Westfield State men's cross country has a pair of meets this upcoming weekend at Connecticut College and Western New England on Saturday.
