Owl Men's XC 23rd at UMD Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass. -  The Westfield State men's cross country team took 23rd place at the 39-team UMass-Dartmouth Invitational cross country meet on Sunday.

The races were conducted a day late to take advantage of better weather as Hurricane Lee slid past New England off shore on Saturday.

The meet included four Division I teams (which swept the top four team placings, led by Boston University, and 11 Division II teams.  The Owl men were 10th among the New England D3 teams at the meet.

Owls first-year Nathan Sylven was the first home for the Owls in 58th place in the individual rankings with a time of 26:09.76 on the eight-kilometer course .

Will Buckley ran 27:27 to be second across the line for the Owls in 127th place among the 303 runners in the varsity race.

The Owls had five runners set personal records for 8k, highlighted by Abdi Nassir's PR by 1:29 over his previous best.

In the JV race, the Owls placed 12th among 16 teams, with Tyler Meunier hitting the tape first in 63rd place in 29:03.

Westfield will compete next Saturday at the Keene State Invitational meet.
