Owls Compete at Coast Guard Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State's John Nekitopoulos won the 3000 meters to highlight the performances of the Westfield State University men's track and field team on Saturday at the Coast Guard Academy Invitational in New London, Conn.

Nekitopoulous hit the tape in the 3000 in 9:23.07 in his winning effort, and added a second-place finish in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:45.67.

Westfield's Gordon Johnson won the 600 meters in 1:29:20 with teammate Rowan Gottschall third in 1:30.89, and Nick Hanley fifth in 1:31.10.

Danny Shea took second in the long jump with a mark of 6.12 m, and Brogan Madden placed second in the high jump clearing 1.80 meters.

Scott Porter took a third in the 800 meters, and Dylan Clark earned a pair of third-place finishes in the throwing circle, with a 13.16m mark in the weight throw and 12.58 m mark in the shot put.

No team scores were recorded at the meet.

The Owls will next compete at the Massasoit Invitational meet at Springfield College on Saturday, January 20.
