WESTFIELD, Mass.  – Westfield State senior Shane Clark (Bellows Falls, Vermont) placed fourth in the javelin at the M.I.T. Last Chance Qualifying meet in Cambridge, Mass. on Thursday.

Clark tossed the javelin 57.59 meters (188'-11").

That mark was just short of his top performance of 57.77 meters earlier this season.

Clark sits in 32nd place on the NCAA Division III national qualifying list, a result that will likely leave him just outside the field for the NCAA Championship meet.   The top 22 declared athletes are selected for the meet, which would require significant defections due to injuries or event conflicts for Clark to qualify.

The meet wraps up Clark's career, and the varsity athletics seasons for Westfield State Owls athletics.

Clark, who graduates today, was named as the athletic department's Peter Mazza Award winner earlier this spring, and he completes a 5-year career in both football and track and field at Westfield State, utilizing an extra-year of eligibility granted by the NCAA due to the covid-19 pandemic.
