Track and Field Compete in Day Two of New England Championships

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Westfield State men's and women's track and field teams competed in day two of the Division III New England Championship meet from Springfield, Mass. on Saturday.

Notable individual performances started with first-year Eliza Lee (Walpole, Mass.) who earned an 11th place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 11.13m.

Sophomore Vicky Marin (Greenfield, Mass.) placed 12th in the high jump by clearing the bar at a height of 1.54 meters.

The Owls had strong performances in the team relay races on both the women's and men's side. The combination of Ariann LeCours (Haverhill, Mass.), Tealei Chandonnet (Dracut, Mass.), Molly Kennedy (West Springfield, Mass.) and Brynne LeCours (Haverhill, Mass.) finished 7th out of 15 teams in the 4x800-meter relay by crossing the tape in 10:11.56.

The men's 4x800-meter relay team also delivered a quality finish in their event with Rowan Gottshall (West Simsbury, Mass.), Nick Hanley (Whitman, Mass.), Gordon Johnson (Hanson, Mass.), and John Nekitopoulos (West Springfield, Mass.) racking up an eighth-place finish with a time of 8:16.46.

The women's 4x400-meter relay team comprised of Lee, Marin, Paige Moroney (Sterling, Mass.) and Savannah Campbell (Walpole, Mass.) also secured a top-ten finish by placing tenth with a mark of 4:13.19.

The women's track and field team placed 32nd at the meet while MIT scored the most points as a team with a total of 135 points.

The men's track and field team earned 33rd overall with MIT also claiming the meet victory with 143 points.
