Men’s Track and Field Compete at Corsair Classic

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Westfield State men's track and field team competed in their second outdoor meet of the season at the Corsair Classic from UMass Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon.

Headlining some of the top performances for the Owls were in the field events with Johnny Ware (Wilmington, Mass.) and Shane Clark (Bellows Falls, Vt.) both posting top three finishes. Ware recorded a second-place mark in the javelin with a toss of 45.48m on his first attempt of the day. Clark was third in the shot put with a distance of 12.71m.

The 800-meter run was one of the stronger events for the Owls as a team with John Nekitopoulos (West Springfield, Mass.), Gordon Johnson (Hanson, Mass.), Colin Mahoney (Plainville, Mass.), and Rowan Gottshall (West Simsbury, Mass.) all finishing fourth through seventh place and all in that succession. Nekitopoulos led the pack of Owls runners with a time of 2:08.49 and was just three tenths of a second behind Vince Tarolli of Roger Williams who placed third.

Jarrod Ledvina (Fairhaven, Mass.) also recorded a second-place tally in the 10,000 at a time of 36:06.33.

Westfield State will be back in action next Saturday, April 8 as the Owls travel to New London, Conn. for the Coast Guard Invitational before returning back to Westfield for the Jerry Gravel Invitational on April 15.
