Westfield State's William Buckley won the 10,000 meters and John Nekitopoulos topped the 1500 meters to highlight the Owls' performances at the outdoor track season opening Swanson Invitational Meet at Wesleyan University on Sunday.
Buckley won the 10,000 meters in 34:41. The Owls had the only three competitors in the event, with Mike Maher second in 35:13 and Jarrod Ledvina third in 36:07.
John Nekitopoulos ran 4:08.25 in winning the 1500 meters.
Other top perfomances for the Owls came from Shane Clark, who took second in javelin with a toss of 56.01, with teammates Johnny Ware 4th and Brendan DeBarber fifth. The 4x100 relay team placed third, and
Brendan Hager had a third place finish in the 5000 with a time of 16:39.
The meet was moved to Sunday to take advantage of a much sunnier weather forecast after mixed precipitation on Saturday.
Westfield will next compete at the Corsair Classic at UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday, April 1.
