Laforest, Marin Earn All-New England D3 Placings

WESTFIELD, Mass. –   Westfield State's Brenden Laforest (Westfield, Mass.) and Vicky Marin (Greenfield, Mass.) will both earn All-New England honors by virtue of their finishes at the New England D3 Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at the New Balance Track in Boston.

Marin took sixth place in the women's high jump, clearing 1.60 meters (5'3"). That was her top performance of the weekend, as she competed in the 60 hurdles and long jump on Friday, and placed 19th in the triple jump at 10.88 meters (34'0-3/4").

On the men's side LaForest placed sixth in the 400 meters with a time of 49.41 seconds, just 2/10ths of a second of Bob D'Agnese's school record of 49.2 set in 1981.

Other competitors for the Owls included Justin Kennedy (Holyoke, Mass./S. Hadley) in the 600, who placed 12th in 1:23.85, John Nekitopoulos (West Springfield, Mass.) and Gordon Johnson (Hanson, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) in the 800.

The men's 4x800 team of Kennedy,  Colin Mahoney (Plainville, Mass.), Johnson and Nekitopoulos placed 13th in 8:19.02. The Westfield men finished 24th in the team scoring, with M.I.T. claiming the meet title.

Mia McDonald (Westfield, Mass.) finished 22nd in the women's 3000 with a time of 11:02.27.  The Westfield women finished 24th in the team scoring. Williams claimed the team title.
