Owls Men's Track and Field leap into the weekend for MASCAC Championship

This Saturday, April 30, Westfield State will travel to Bridgewater State, to compete in the 2022 MASCAC outdoor track and field championship with the first field event starting at 10 a.m. and the first running event starting at 11 a.m.. 

The Owls men have 19 entries for this weekend's events. 

The Owls look to have strong performances this weekend as they have recently had players place high and set personal bests in the last month.

Sophomore Colby Ranck has had major performances for the Owls in the past month. In the Jerry Gravel Invitational, Ranck won both the long jump and the triple jump to lead Westfield in the meet. He won the long jump with a mark of 6.57 meters which is the highest seed mark going into this weekend. Ranck most recently placed second in the long jump (6.65m) and third in the triple jump (12.72m) at the Trinity Invitational. He looks to participate in the long jump, triple jump, 4 x 100 meter relay, and the 4 x 400 meter relay in this weekend's championship. 

Senior Shane Clark won the javelin throw at the Trinity Invitational with a mark of 53.32 meters. Clark is in the top three best seed marks for both pole vault and javelin and will also look to gain points in discus, hammer, and shot put. 

Senior Enrique Delgado has improved his PR time in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in his last event . The weekend of April 16 at the Jerry Gravel Invitational, Delgado finished first and improved his personal best time at the Trinity Invitational with a time mark of 11:14.90.  Delgado looks to participate in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and 400 meter hurdles this weekend.

Sophomore John Nekitopoulos won the 800 meters at the Jerry Gravel Classic and then placed tenth at the Trinity Invitational with a time of 2:00.35. Nekitopoulos looks to continue this weekend in the 800 meter and 4 x 800 meter. 

Owls Senior Owen Ortiz looks to have a busy weekend participating in six different events in the championship meet. He is participating in the 100 meter, 200 meter, long jump, triple jump, 4 x 100 meter relay, and the 4 x 400 meter relay. Ortiz is looking to gain points in all his respective events. 

 

Westfield State was picked to place second this season in the MASCAC preseason coaches poll.
