Marin Wins Two Events as Owls Compete at Wesleyan Spring Classic

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State first-year Vicky Marin (Greenfield, Mass.) won the 100 meter hurdles and the long jump events as the Owls competed at the Wesleyan Spring Classic in Middletown, Connecticut on Saturday afternoon.

Marin led the 100-meter field with a time of 15.97 while jumping to a mark of 5.18 meters to claim first place in both events. She also earned a score of 1.58 in the high jump, ranking her third in the event. On top of her individual successes, Marin anchored the 4x100 meter relay team that placed fourth out of eight teams.

Sophomore Paige Moroney (Sterling, Mass.) earned two top five finishes in both the 200-meter dash and the 100 meter. She finished fourth in the 200 with a time of 27.21 and crossed the line fifth in the 100 meter at a time of 12.92.

First-year Kacia Kinsmith turned in a strong performance in the javelin with a sixth place finish out of 24 competitors.

First-year Ariann LeCours (Haverhill, Mass.) had a solid placement in the 1500 meter, finishing 16 out of the 47 runner field.

On the men's side, sophomore Colby Ranck (Chicopee, Mass.) positioned himself in the top five of two events. He was a fourth place finisher in the long jump (6.46m) and fifth in the triple jump (12.63m).

Junior Brenden LaForest (Westfield, Mass.) and senior Lucas Roberts (Charlton, Mass.) finished in fifth and sixth place in the 100-meter (11.36/11.51) with Roberts also finishing in sixth place in the 200-meter, crossing the finish line with a time of 23.57.

Senior Enrique Delgado (Worcester, Mass.) placed sixth in the 800-meter run at a time of 2:08.86.

Finishing off the list of notable performers was Michael Maher (Attleboro, Mass.), earning an eighth place result with a time of 34:08.17 in what was a productive afternoon for Owls' runners in this event.

Westfield State's next meet will take place on Saturday, April 2, as the Owls compete in the Corsair Classic from UMass Dartmouth in Dartmouth, Mass.
