Maslowski wins 400 Meters as Owls Place 3rd at MASCAC Championship

Westfield State senior Mitch Maslowski (Berlin, Conn.) won the 400-meter dash as the Owls placed third in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship on a Saturday afternoon at the Jerry Gravel Track at Westfield State University. The Owls finished with a total of 149 points.

Maslowski posted a time of 51.19 seconds in the 400.

Junior thrower Shane Clark (Bellows Falls, Vt.) had a productive day, finishing second in the shot put and javelin throw,  and third in the discus throw. First-year-student Travis Dozier (Adams, Mass.) also posted strong numbers in the high jump (1.85m) and long jump (6.83m) by finishing in second place in each event.

Senior Chris Tringali (Millville, Mass.) earned second place in the 10,000 meters and placed third in the 1500 meter. In the triple jump, first-year-student Colby Ranck (West Springfield, Mass.) and senior Own Ortiz (Athol, Mass.) each placed top three in the event, Ranck finishing in second and Ortiz placing third. In the 4x100 meter relay, the Owls' team finished in second place (Travis Dozier, Lucas Roberts, Max Margeson, Colby Ranck).

Bridgewater State won the meet, posting a 228 score by winning 10 individual events and both team relays. Exondus Barnes (East Providence, R.I.) was victorious in the high jump and long jump. Jacob DeAndrade (Taunton, Mass.) blazed through the 100 and 200 meter dashes for first place victories. Trevor Wysong (Taunton, Mass.) controlled the distance running by winning both the 5,000 meter and 10,000 meters. Dimetri Morris (North Andover, Mass.) won the 110 meter hurdles and 400 meter hurdles. Joseph Zingarelli (North Kingston, R.I.) was victorious in pole vault while Corey Stalters (Norton, Mass.) won the javelin.

Fitchburg State placed second with 166 points, accumulating six individual event victories. Taban Manyok (Lynn, Mass.) finished in first place in the 800 meter and 1500 meter. Nick Zeoli (Plymouth, Mass.) won the shot put and discus throw. Carson Doody (Ashby, Mass.) and Rodny Bonhomme (Bridgeport, Conn.) each won a field event as Doody secured the triple jump title and Bonhomme earned the hammer victory.

Worcester State finished in fourth place with 65 points. Andrew Fottler (Chelmsford, Mass.) won the 3000 meter steeplechase.

The women's MASCAC Championships will be contested tomorrow (Sunday, May 2) at Westfield

Westfield will next compete at the All New England Championships which will take place on Friday, May 14th and Saturday, May 15th at Veterans Memorial Stadium in New Britain, Connecticut.
