Men's Track and Field Hosts Gravel Invitational Meet

WESTFIELD, Mass. –  Westfield State's Lucas Roberts (Dudley, Mass./Shepherd Hill) placed second in both the 100 and the 200 meter dash to highlight the Owls performances at the annual Jerry Gravel Invitational meet on Saturday afternoon.

Roberts was out leaned at the tape in the 100, finishing in 11.33 seconds, just 2/100th off of Mass Maritime's Brady Bailey. 

Roberts clocked in a 22.96 in the 200 meters.

Other solid performances for the Owls came from senior Owen Ortiz (Greenfield, Mass.) who placed second in the triple jump with a hop-skip-jump of 12.17 meters.   The Owls 4x100 relay ran second to Bridgewater State with Ortiz running the anchor leg as the group finished in 44.33.

Senior Chris Tringali (Millville, Mass./ Blackstone-Millville) placed second in the 5,000 meters in 16:30.45, while Mike Maher (Attleboro, Mass.)  finished second in the 3000 steeplechase in 11:24.66. Ryan Donohue (Abington, Mass./Cardinal Spellman) second in the hammer throw at 39.49 meters.

Shane Clark (Bellows Falls, Vt.) took third in the javelin with a toss of 48.22 meters, as well as third in the shot put at 12.46 meters.

Other local athletes for the Owls included Isaiah Lopez's (Holyoke, Mass.) third in the triple jump 12.13 meters and Travis Dozier's (Adams, Mass./Hoosic Valley) fourth in the long jump at 6.21 meters

The meet did not record any team scores.  The men's and women's meets were split, with the men competing in an afternoon session after the women's meet was contested in the morning to meet pandemic protocols.

The Owls are idle next weekend while preparing for the 2021 MASCAC Championships, set for May 2 in Westfield.
