WESTFIELD, MA – Westfield State University senior William Canty (South Grafton, MA) was selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletics Conference Track and Field Athlete of the Week on March 3.

Canty set a school-record in the heptathlon, scoring 4955 points as he placed second at the Division III New England Championships to earn All-New England honors.

Won the shot put with a toss of 12.32m (40' 05.00") and placed second in the pole vault, clearing 4.05m (13' 03.50"), the 60 hurdles in 8.56 seconds, the 1000 meter run in 2:51.98 and the 60 dash in 7.15 seconds, finished fifth in the long jump (6.40m/21'0") and seventh in the high jump (1.77m/5' 9.75").

Canty is currently ninth nationally in the heptathlon and third in New England.
