Men's Track Tops Pioneer Winter Classic

Westfield State's men's track and field team won the Pioneer Winter Classic meet at Utica College on Saturday.

The Owls finished with 148 points, one ahead of RPI and five better than Utica in the seven team meet.

For Westfield, Owen Ortiz topped the triple jump with hop, skip and jump of 12.99m (42'-7.5"), and placed fourth in the long jump with a jump of 6.27m (20'-7").

William Canty won the 60 meter hurdles in 8.62 seconds, and placed second in the long jump with a leap of 21'-0.75"

Zac Bentley and Jack Merck ran 1-2 in the 1 mile run. Bentley finished in 4:31.55, 1.53 seconds ahead of Merck.

Westfield State will break for finals and the winter break before returning to action with another meet at Utica, the Pioneer Invitational on January 18.
