Canty Wins All-New England Decathlon

Westfield State junior William Canty won the NEICAAA (New England All-Divisions) decathlon title to headline the Owls' performances at the meet held at Southern Connecticut State on Friday and Saturday.

Canty posted a school record score of 6,765 in the decathlon, breaking his own mark, while defeating a field that included athletes from Division I, II, and III schools.

He won the 100 meters (11.07 second), the 400 meters (48.93), and the pole vault (13'-11.25") in the events within the decathlon competition.  He scored 845 points in the 100, the most of any of his events.

Canty, who now ranks fourth on the NCAA national qualifying list, finished nearly 300 points ahead of his closest competitor, Charles Moody of the University of Southern Maine.

Westfield's Mitch Maslowski placed  15th in the 200 meters, while Owen Ortiz was 20th in the long jump.

The Owls were 24th in the team scoring with 10 points.  Host Southern Connecticut won the meet with a total of 112 points.
