Westfield State junior William Canty won the New England Division 3 championship in the 400 meters, and ran a leg of the Owls champion 4x400 relay to highlight the Owls performances at the meet at Williams College on Friday and Saturday.

Canty sprinted the 400 in 48.47 seconds to win the event.  He also partnered with seniors Connor Gottzmann and Eastefan Jack, and sophomore Mitch Maslowski to win the 4x400 relay in a time of 3:19.10.

The Owls 4x800 relay also earned all-New England honors by placing seventh.  The foursome of Corey Pooler, Conner Grady, Shea Hiltz and Zac Bentley posted a time of 7:59.61.

Other All-New England award winners included senior Tim Forrest, who placed seventh in the 10,000 meters in a time of 32:20.44, shaving more than a half-minute off of his seed time, and Maslowski took fifth place in the 200 meters with a time of 21.94.

The top eight finishers in each event and relays earn All-New England Honors.

The Owl men placed 11th as a team out of 31 scoring teams at the meet.

Westfield's qualified athletes will compete at the NEICAAA (All-Division All-New England) Championship meet next weekend at Southern Connecticut State.
