Ortiz Tops Long Jump, Triple Jump at MASCAC Championships

Westfield State sophomore Owen Ortiz won both the long jump and the triple jump to lead Westfield State's men's track and field team at the 2019 MASCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Fitchburg, Mass. On Saturday.

Ortiz leapt 6.70 meters (21'-11.75") in winning the long jump, and added a performance of 13.45m (44'-1.5") in the triple jump.

Ortiz also ran a leg of the Owls' winning 4x100 relay, while partnering with Dorian Johnson, Mitch Maslowski and William Canty.

Westfield also found success in the 800 meter relay, as the group of Zac Bentley, Corey Pooler, Cameron Green and Conner Grady took home top honors.

Bentley won the 1,500 meters in a time 4:14.34, and Owls senior Tim Forrest went out on top, winning the 10,000 meters in 32.54.71.

The Owl men placed third in the team scoring.  Bridgewater won the title with 220 points, followed by Worcester (163), Westfield (147.5), Fitchburg (79) and Mass Maritime (36).

The meet was held in conjunction with the Little East Conference championships, and is also scored as the "New England Alliance Championships" for the combined meet.  The Owls placed third in the 13-team Alliance scoring, as Bridgewater topped the meet with 147.5, followed by Southern Maine (118) and the Owls (100).
