Men's Track and Field Second at MASCAC Meet

 

WESTFIELD, Mass.  – Westfield State junior William Canty (Grafton HS/S. Grafton, Mass.) scored points in six different events to help the Owls to a second place team finish at the 2019 MASCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Allwell North Complex at Plymouth State University in Plymouth, N.H. on Saturday.

Canty won the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.76 seconds, and also scored points in the long jump (2nd), pole vault (4th), high jump (5th), pole vault (5th) and the 60 meter dash (6th).

Bridgewater State won the team title with 205 points, followed by the Owls with 169, Worcester State with 150, and Fitchburg State with 56.

Other event winners for Westfield included Brandon Leclair (Wamogo/Goshen, Conn.) in the 3000 meters, Tim Forrest (Westborough/Grafton, Mass.) in the 5000 meters and the 4x800 meter relay team of Zac Bentley (Taunton/Acushnet, Mass.), Corey Pooler (Middleboro, Mass.), Connor Grady (Douglas, Mass.) and Shea Hiltz (Tewksbury, Mass.).

Leclair and Forrest both logged double-duty in the distance events for the Owls, as Forrest grabbed fifth in the 3000 and Leclair took fourth place in the 5000 as the duo each covered five miles of competitive running on the day.   Kevin Rayner (Pittsfield, Mass.) also scored points for the Owls in the 5000.
