Men's Track 2nd in MASCAC, 4th in Alliance

The Westfield State University men's track and field team had two individual event winners and one winning relay as the Owls placed second at the 2018 MASCAC Indoor Track and Field title at the Providence Technical and Career High School facility in Providence, R.I. on Saturday.

The Owls finished fourth in the New England Alliance scoring, as the meet event serves as the championship event for both the MASCAC and the Little East Conference, with the combined scoring regarded as the New England Alliance.

The Owls finished with 153 points in the MASCAC to finish in second place as Bridgewater won the team title with 232 points. In the Alliance scoring Bridgewater won with 138.5, followed by Southern Maine (124), UMass Dartmouth (103) and the Owls with 86.

Senior Dereck Stone leapt to the MASCAC title in the long jump with a top mark of 6.71 meters (22' ΒΌ") and he also placed second in the triple jump.

Sophomore Riley Moore took the MASCAC title in the pole vault, clearing 4.10 meters (13' 5.25"), and finished second in the Alliance scoring.

The Owls 4x200 team took home both the MASCAC and the Alliance titles in the 4x200 relay, as the quartet of William Canty, Paul James, Dorian Johnson and Mitch Maslowski circumnavigated the oval in a time of 1:32.15.

Canty also took home second place honors in the 60 hurdles, as he and Brent Kane ran 2-3 in the event for the Owls.
