Men's Track Ties for 3rd in Preseason Poll

WESTFIELD, Mass. - The Westfield State men's track and field team has been chosen by the coaches from around the conference to tie for third in the 2018 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field poll.

As the 2017 MASCAC runner-up, the Owls took home two individual titles and a relay crown last season.

Owls junior Connor Gottzmann (Longmeadow, Mass.) was first in the 1,000-meter run while also finishing first as a member of the 4x800 meter relay last season.

Oher strong returners for the Owls includes senior Dereck Stone (Bellingham, Mass.) who took home second place honors last season in the long jump with a top leap of 6.92m (22'-08.50).

Sitting in a tie for the first place spot are Bridgewater State and Worcester State who both received two first place votes. The Bears finished fourth at the 2017 MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships with two individual titles and a relay. The Lancers took home their first Indoor Track and Field Championship last season along with six individual league crowns and a relay.

Westfield State travels to Springfield College on December 2nd for their first meet of the 2017-18 season.
