Stone Wins Long Jump at Coast Guard
WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Senior Dereck Stone won the long jump to lead the performances from the Westfield State Owls at the US Coast Guard Academy Invitational track and field meet on Saturday, April 7 at New London, Connecticut.

Westfield placed third among the six teams, behind host Coast Guard and Division III Franklin Pierce University.

Stone won the long jump with a leap of 6.64m (21-09.50), and also took third in the triple jump with a top mark of 12.38m (40'-07.50).

Other top point-getters for the Owls included Patrick Brett second in the 5,000 meters in a time of16:10.58; Brent Kane was second in 110 hurdles in 16.28; Dorian Johnson second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:00.30; and David Drigo placed second shot put with a top toss of 13.03m (42-09.00).

Paul James took third in the 100 meters, and Adrian Brooks third in discus for the Owls.

Westfield State will be home to host the Jerry Gravel Invitation meet at the Gravel Track and Alumni Field Complex next Saturday, in the meet named for the retired Owls Hall of Fame track and field coach.
