Stone, Maslowski, Canty Lead Owls at Wesleyan

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State University's senior Dereck Stone (Bellingham, Mass.) won the high jump to qualify for the New England Division III Championships and placed second in the long jump to lead the men's track and field team at the Wesleyan University Invitational II Saturday.

Stone topped the high jump with a height of 1.88m (6'2'') and placed second in the long jump with a leap of 6.45m (21'2'').

Joining Stone in qualifying for the New England Division III Championships is freshman Mitch Maslowski (Berlin, Conn.) who placed third in the 200-meters finals in a time of 23.12 seconds and sophomore William Canty (South Grafton, Mass. / Grafton) who followed in fourth at 23.21 seconds.

Other top finishers for the Owls includes junior Connor Gottzmann (Longmeadow, Mass.) who placed fourth in the 800m dash (2:01.72), junior Tim Forrest (Grafton, Mass. / Westborough) who finished sixth in the 3,000m dash (9:09.87) and junior Paul James (West Brookfield, Mass. / Tantasqua) who ran to a fifth place finish in the 60m dash (7.25) and a sixth place finish in the 200m dash (23.34).

No team scoring was kept at the meet.

The Owls travel to Rhode Island College on February 10th to compete in the MASCAC/Alliance Championship meet.
