Kane Sets PR at Springfield Season Opener

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State University's senior Brent Kane (Wilbraham / Minnechaug) placed third in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.74 to set his best collegiate mark yet and to lead the Owls in their season-opening track and field meet hosted by Springfield College Saturday.

Other top performers for the Owls includes junior Dorian Johnson (Reading / Reading Memorial) who finished second in the 500-meter run in a time of 1:07.72, sophomore William Canty (South Grafton / Grafton) who placed second in the long jump (6.32m; 20-09.00), junior Connor Gottzmann (Longmeadow, Mass.) who had a second place finish in the 1000-meter run in a time of 2:43.65, and sophomore Sam Harding (Lee/Lenox Co-Op.) who followed in third in a time of 2:11.76.

The Owls 4x400 relay team of Esteafan Jack (Boston / Lincoln-Sudbury), Canty, Paul James (West Brookfield / Tantasqua) and Johnson placed second in a time of 3:30.87.

No team scoring was kept at the season-opening meet.

Westfield State will travel to Rhode Island College for their next meet on December 9th.
