Gottzmann, Stone Lead Owls at NE Div. III Finals

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State University's junior Connor Gottzmann (Longmeadow, Mass.) placed sixth in the 600 meter run while senior Dereck Stone finished sixth in the long jump to lead the men's indoor track and field team at the New England Division III Finals in Middlebury, Vermont Friday and Saturday.

Gottzmann placed sixth in the 600 meter run in a time of 1:24.09 while Stone finished sixth in the long jump with a leap of 6.51 meters (21-04.25).

Other top competitors for the Owls includes freshman Zac Bentley who finished 12th in the 1,000 meter run (2:38.16), junior Paul James (West Brookfield, Mass. / Tantasqua) who placed 13th in the 200 meter dash (22.90), freshman Mitchel Maslowski (Berlin, Conn.) who followed in 16th in the 200 meter dash (23.08), and junior Dorian Johnson (Reading, Mass. / Reading Memorial) who placed 17th in the 400 meter dash (52.58).

Among 20 scored events, Westfield State placed 19th of 28 competing colleges and universities with a team total of six points. Tufts University finished first with 110 total points.

The Owls will travel to Middlebury, Vermont on February 23rd and 24th to compete in the Middlebury Winter Track Carnival.
