WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State University men's soccer goalkeeper Emilio Mancuso locked down the Owls' defense in a hard-fought 0-0 stalemate against the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts Trailblazers.
In the first half, Westfield State was able to string together a pair of crisp passes from Jhonatan Brandt, Bryant Keeney, and Edwin Zaruma Buri that resulted in a laser beam shot from Keeney just wide of the post for the Owls.
MCLA had the opportunity to take the lead at the half after Conor Green's defensive clearance found Justice Daniels on a solo break that was spoiled by Emilio Mancuso.
Mancuso thwarted a total of seven shots on target for the Owls. While Sam Edge swatted away six total shots for the Trailblazers.
Nick Brown, who led the Owls in scoring last season, made his return from injury. Brown was able to rifle in five total shots, none of which were lucky enough to find the back of the net.
Westfield State held the shooting advantage over MCLA with 19 total shots compared to the Trailblazer's 13 total shots.
Westfield State University men's soccer is now to 0-6-3 (0-1-1 MASCAC) while the MCLA Trailblazers are now 3-4-2 (0-1-1 MASCAC).
The Owls will kick off again on Tuesday, September 24 at 7:00 pm on Alumni Field against the Castleton Spartans in a non-conference soccer matchup.
