BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England grabbed a 1-0 victory over Westfield State in non-conference men's soccer action at Barbara J. Hazard Field on Tuesday evening. The Nor'easters improve to 4-3-1 overall while the Owls fall to 1-5-0.

Following a scoreless first half, the Nor'easters broke the tie in the 57th minute. Luca DiTursi took a shot from just inside the box that was blocked far out to Danny O'Brien near the midfield circle. O'Brien sent a perfect pass through the defense ahead to Callum Heaslewood who put it in past a diving Owls goalkeeper Tyler Diotalevi for the goal.

The Owls nearly tied it up in the 78th minute as a shot by Ryan Della Penna out a scramble in front of the net nearly found the left corner. Defender Daniel Smushkin slid in to clear the ball just before it could cross the goal line.

UNE led 17-12 in shots and 7-6 on goal. Camden Spear earned his first shutout of the season, making five saves. Tyler Diotalevi also had five stops for Westfield.

The Nor'easters return to action Saturday afternoon on the road at Husson at 3 p.m.  Westfield will next host Bridgewater State on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. in a MASCAC game at Alumni Field.
