Owls' Hockey Blasts Fitchburg, 7-1

WESTFIELD, Mass.    – Westfield State had seven different goal scorers as the Owls men's ice hockey team skated to a 7-1 win over Fitchburg State at the Wallace Civic Center on Saturday evening.

Westfield jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first period and never looked back.

The Owls improve to 8-7 and are now 4-4 in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference while Fitchburg is now 7-4 and 4-4 in the conference.

Emile Pichette started the goal parade for the Owls just 3:19 into the contest. Emile Tremblay, Colin Roe and William Chausse added tallies in the first period.

Daniel Finegan scored in the second to make it 5-0 at the second intermission.  Nicolas Coppola and Louis Ouellet added short-handed goals in the third to cap the scoring for the Owls.   Ouellet finished with a goal and two assists, and Cooper Board was credited with a pair of assists

In goal, Esteban Gauthier made 40 saves, for the Owls, but had the shutout spoiled when Fitchburg's Nick Weber finally cracked the scoring column at the 10:35 mark of the third period.

The Owls will next travel to UMass-Dartmouth for a conference game on Thursday, January 23.
