Williams Tallys Twice to Lead Owls to 5-3 Win Over Worcester

 

WESTFIELD, Mass.  – Westfield State's Brett Williams scored two goals and added an assist as the Owls topped Worcester State, 5-3 in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference game at Amelia Park Arena on Thursday night.

Westfield improves to 9-4-1 overall and 6-3-1 in the league, while Worcester is 4-10 and 3-7 in the conference.  

Worcester grabbed a 1-0 lead just 45 seconds into the game on goal from Brendan Ronan, but the Owls controlled play in the first period from there, tallying three goals in the next 10 minutes, including a pair from Williams, the last on a breakaway up the left side, beating Jacob Kubik for the goal, and prompting a change in net for the Lancers.

Worcester's Wyatt Freidlander came in in goal and controlled the damage for the rest of the period, with Westfield emerging with a 3-1 lead. 

The Owls sandwiched goals from Julian Boisclair and Emile Pichette around Ronan's second tally of the night for Worcester and led 5-2 entering the third period.

Worcester netted a goal from Jude Hadi on a shot from the high slot just 1:17 into the period which trimmed the Owls lead to 5-3.

From there, the Owls peppered Friedlander for the rest of the period, but he made 13 saves in the third period.

Friedlander finished with 32 saves for the Lancers, while Valtteri Valtonen made 30 saves for the Owls.
