WESTFIELD, Mass. –   Worcester State's Brian Clougherty scored a pair of goals to lead Worcester State to a 4-0 MASCAC men's ice hockey win over Westfield State at Amelia Park Arena on Thursday night.

Jakub Kubik made 24 saves in net to earn the shutout for the Lancers.  Worcester State improves to 7-7 overall and 6-2 in the MASCAC.  Westfield drops to 5-8-1 overall and 2-6 in the league.

The Lancers jumped out to a 1-0 lead with 1:36 left in the first period as Andres Grongstad redirected a shot in.

Worcester grabbed a 2-0 lead on a marker from Matthew Peckham, who tapped in a good centering pass from Grongstad at 14:45 of the second period.

Clougherty added his first of the night just 1:18 later, capitalizing on a 2-on-1 breakway feed from Nick Pennucci.

Cloughery added his second with 3:39 left in the second to cap the scoring.

Offense was hard to come by for the Owls.   Kubik foiled Gianluca Marini on a 2-on-none breakway in the third period, as the Owls skated short-handed for seven minutes after a major and a minor penalty.

Valtteri Valtonen made 35 saves for the Owls.

Westfield will be back in action on Saturday at Salem State.
