WESTFIELD, Mass. –  Westfield State's Jojo Carbone (Marshfield, Mass.) assisted on one goal and scored the game winner as Westfield State rallied past Worcester State, 3-1 in a MASCAC ice hockey game at Amelia Park Arena on Saturday evening.

Westfield State improves to 9-8-2 overall and 4-6-2 in the MASCAC, while Worcester is now 7-10-1, 4-6-1.

Carbone buried the game winner with 4:21 left in regulation as the Owls John-Michael DiGregorio (Montreal, Quebec) kept the puck in the offensive zone, then Jason Diamond (Lakeville, Conn.) sent a centering pass from the left side that Carbone reeled in before deking Worcester State goaltender Wyatt Friedlander (Lake Placid, NY) and slipping a backhander just inside the left post for the goal.

Carbone tallied an assist on the Owls first goal of the night, as he and Justin Collins (Wilmington, Mass.) set up Chuck Costello's (Philadelphia, Pa.) blast on the power play at 14:22 of the second period.

Worcester had taken a 1-0 lead 5:06 into the contest as Will Ahern (Charlestown, Mass.) scored on a rebound, with Brendan Ronan (Saugus, Mass.) and Max Moriarty (East Longmeadow, Mass.) credited with assists on the play.

Westfield tacked on an empty net goal late, as Paul Frys (Portland, Ore.) won a face off in the defensive zone, and Mattheiu Jones (Gatineau, Quebec) skated the puck to center ice before firing to the empty net for the 3-1 final.

Westfield got 37 saves from sophomore goalie Valtteri Valtonen (Helsinki, Finland), while Friedlander stopped 36 shots for the Lancers.

The two teams will have a quick turnaround for their third meeting of the season, as the two teams will meet Monday at 3:50 at the Worcester Ice Center in a make up date from earlier in the season.  The season series is tied at 1-1.
