Jones Tallies Twice in 4-2 Win Over Framingham

WESTFIELD, Mass. –     Westfield State's Mathieu Jones scored a pair of goals to lead the Owls to a 4-2 win over Framingham State at the Loring Arena in Framingham on Tuesday night.

Westfield gets back above .500 for the season at 8-7-2 overall and 3-5-2 in the MASCAC, while Framingham dipped to 1-13 and 0-9 in the league.

Westfield got on the board first as transfer student Gianluca Marini tallied off a centering pass from Jake Ratcliffe, with Marini sliding down the right side of the crease for a quick shot and a 1-0 lead just 1:18 into the contest.

Framingham answered 12 minutes later with Matthew Paiotti converting with a shot right on the doorstep with an assist from Elijag Slagter.

The Owls edged away with a goal from Jones late in the second period, and then Justin Collins' power play tally early in the third period gave Westfield a 3-1 lead.

Framingham trimmed the lead back to 3-2 on a power play goal from Patrick Colgan with 15:25 to play, but the Rams could get no closer, and Westfield's Jones added an empty net goal with four seconds left to ice the win.

Valtteri Valtonen made 37 saves in net for the Owls, while Trevor Stenberg made 39 saves for Framingham.

Westfield will travel to Plymouth State for a 6:00 p.m. game on Thursday, before returning home to host Worcester State on Saturday at 5:35 p.m. at Amelia Park Arena.
