Owls Rally Past Rams, 9-3

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State University's junior Aaron Clancy (Quincy, Mass.) and sophomore Adam Blackman (Mansfield, Mass.) each scored two goals to help lead the Owls to a 9-3 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference win at the Amelia Park Ice Arena Tuesday night.

The Owls improve to 6-11-1 overall and 4-8 in MASCAC play while the Rams fall to 3-14-2 on the season and 2-10 in conference action.

Westfield State dominated the first period of play, finding the back of the net four times with goals from Blackman, senior Jeremy Young (Lynnfield, Mass.), freshman Billy Czar (South Boston, Mass.), and Clancy to gain the early 4-0 lead.

In the seventh and eighth minute of the second period, the Rams responded with back to back goals from sophomore Brenden Williams (Richmond, VA) and freshman Walker Hamilton (Anchorage, AK) ) to cut the Owls lead to 4-2.

One minute later, Owls' freshman Danny Ferri (Chelmsford, Mass.) scored one of his own with assists from sophomore Robert Neuwirth (Zlin, Czech Republic) and sophomore Daniel Backstrom (Helsinki, Finland) to increase their lead by one.

Framingham State found the back of the net once more at 15:21 in the second period with a goal from senior Tyler Colacchio (Bellingham, Mass.) assisted by sophomore John Sheehan (Norwood, Mass.) and freshman Michael Gennello (East Windsor, NJ) to make it 5-3.

Westfield State went on to score once more in the second period, and three times in the fourth with goals from Clancy, junior Wyatt Trumbley (Campbell River, B.C.) and Blackman to clinch the 9-3 conference win.

Owls' sophomore goalkeeper Kameron Limburg (Howell, Mich.) made 28 saves in goal, while junior Adam Calabrese (Philadelphia, PA) and Dom Montecalvo (Tewksbury, Mass.) split time in net for the Rams, making 37 total saves.

Westfield State hosts Salem State on Thursday, February 1st in a MASCAC matchup at 7:35 p.m. Framingham State will travel to Worcester State on Saturday, February 3rd for a conference game at 3:30 p.m.
