Recent Highlights

2022-23: The Owls finished third out of eight teams at the MASCAC Championship meet in the Fall of 2022. Westfield State seniors Brandon Smith and Kyle DelSignore both finished in the top four individually as the Owls placed third across the two-day slate at the MASCAC Tournament from Shennecossett Golf Course in Groton, Connecticut on Monday afternoon. Smith and DelSignore earned First Team All-Conference honors after placing in the top five of the individual leaderboards. 

2021-22: Sutter and the Owls won the RIC Invitational during the spring season while also posting a pair of second-place team performances at the Brett Williamson Invitational and Westfield State Spring Invitational. Finished fourth at the MASCAC Championship meet in the Fall of 2021.

Spring 2021: Sutter guided the Owls to a MASCAC Championship in the spring season at the Ranch Golf Club. Westfield State teammates Matteo Godak and J.J. Newcombe finished top two individually with Godak shooting the low-round 73 with Newcombe two strokes behind. The Owls shot 309 as a team to easily out-distance Worcester State and Springfield College, which both finished 22 strokes back of the Owls at 331.

Fall 2019: Sutter led the Owls to a second-place team finish at the MASCAC Championships held in Boylson. Mass. The team saw three members named to the All-Conference squad including first-team members Matteo Godek and J.J. Newcombe, and second team selection Mike Waldman. The 2019 team won all three of its tournaments before the conference championships. Senior Ryan Koczela won a four-hole playoff at the Elms College Blazer Inivitational to take home the individual crown for the event.

2018-19: The Owls captured the 2018 MASCAC team title in October and sophomore Matteo Godek took home co-medalist honors as he tied for the best score on the day with a 5-over 77 on a soaking wet course. Godek went on to win the Westfield State Spring Invitational with a final-round 67. Junior Ryan Koczela won a three-man playoff at the 2018 Brett Williamson Invitational to claim the individual honors. The Owls won four total events as a team over the course of the fall and spring, including the conference championship in the fall.


History/Highlights: Men's golf returned to Westfield State as a varsity sport in the fall of 2008 after a 20-year hiatus. The Owls practice and play their matches at Tekoa Country Club, which is located near the University. Under Sutter's leadership, Westfield State won the MASCAC team title during the 2013 season. Owls' golfer Mike Sarkis won the MASCAC individual title in 2017.
