Godek Posts Career Best 67 at Westfield State Invitational as Owls Take Team Title

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State junior Matteo Godek (Feeding Hills, Mass.) posted a career-best 67 to grab the top honors and propel his team to the title at the Westfield State Invitational this afternoon at Tekoa Country Club.

Godek tore up the back nine, racking up five birdies in the process. He started his run making birdie putts on 10, 11, and 12 and then followed with one at 14. He capped off his 31 on the back with a 45-foot putt on 18 to put him at four under par and never looked back. He would par his final two holes to lock up the individual title.

Westfield State also took home the team title with a score of 291, largely due to the fact the top three scorers of the event were Owls. Junior Ryan Koczela (Bridgewater, Mass.) and freshman J.J. Newcombe (Bellingham, Mass.) were tied for second with a 74 on the day. Senior Nick Eliopoulos (Lynnfield, Mass.) posted the final score for the Owls, wrapping out a 76 and just edging out teammate Garrett Desmond (Beverly, Mass.) by a stroke.

David Albright (Grantham, N.H.) helped Northern Vermont secure a second place finish with his 80.

Worcester State's Connor Anderson (Raynham, Mass.) led the Lancers to a third place team finish with his 75.

Rhode Island College's Michael Coparco (Johnston, R.I.) and Eastern Nazarene's Michael Dietz (North Charlestown, S.C.) were also among the top golfers, scoring 75 and 76, respectively.
