Godek Fifth As Owls Place Ninth at Wildcat Spring Invite

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Westfield State sophomore Matteo Godek fired back to back rounds of 74 to finish in a tie for fifth at the Wildcat Spring Invitational golf tournament hosted by Johnson and Wales University at the Cranston (R.I.) Country Club on Saturday and Sunday.   

Godek's sharp performance helped the Owls place ninth among 18 teams, which included a strong field with Division I Providence College, and NCAA qualifier Husson, as well as tournament champion Amherst College.

Amherst's Cole Vissicchio won tournament with a score of 71-72-143, four strokes ahead of Godek.

Senior Nick Eliopoulos 78-80-158 was second for the Owls and tied for 40th in the 103-player field.   JJ Newcombe and Ryan Koczela rounded out the Owls' scoring group.   Westfield finished with a team score of 628, 32 strokes off the pace set by Amherst.

The Owls will be back in action on Tuesday at the Rich Korzec Memorial Tournament at Blackstone CC in Sutton.  The course will be familir to the Owls as the site of this past fall's MASCAC Championship, a tournament where Godek earned co-medallist honors.
